Winter Storm Linus Update

  • The City of Farmington Hills officially received 13 inches of snow in the storm that began on Sunday.
  • Road crews are working around the clock to clear snow and maintain safe streets. A snow emergency has been declared and all parked vehicles must be removed from all roadways until they have been plowed.
  • Parking may resume after roadways have been cleared of snow.
  • Recycling pickups are canceled for Monday, Feb. 2. Today’s recycling will be picked up on Monday, Feb. 9. Garbage will be picked up on Monday, Feb. 2 as regularly scheduled.
  • All senior programs, including Meals on Wheels, are canceled for Monday, Feb. 2. Dialysis trips are the only senior transportation services that are being provided.
  • All home owners and business owners are asked to clear snow from fire hydrants on their property so that they are visible to fire trucks. Please shovel a clear path to the hydrant from the road, and assure that a space of at least three feet around the hydrant is clear of snow. If snow has built up on the hydrant, please take a broom and sweep it off. Any landscaping around the hydrant also needs to be cleared of snow.
  • Local subdivision streets are currently being plowed. The City makes a practice of rotating which neighborhoods are plowed first after each snow event.
  • The deposit of snow at the end of driveways is a natural byproduct of plowing operations. You may help alleviate some of this accumulation if you clear the area to the right of your driveway before a snow plow comes down your street. The city is unable to return to clear this deposit at the end of your driveway and is unable to prevent this from occurring at over 23,000 driveways city-wide.
